PAUL Henderson showed the magic touch to turn Amron Kali from also-ran into an instant winner at Fontwell Park on Sunday.

After failing to reach the frame in 12 hurdles in Ireland, the seven-year-old stormed home on her British debut for the Whitsbury trainer outpacing ten rivals under Nick Schoilfield in a 2m1½f handicap hurdle at the Sussex track.

Henderson said: “My agent in Ireland, Aidan Kennedy, found Amron Kali for me and said she fitted the profile of the horses I like to buy but he had to convince me because of her form. She arrived here race fit at the beginning of December and she was in our system for three weeks to prepare her.

“Nick said she wasn't totally in love with the heavy going and that's why he kept her wide for the better ground but she showed a really good attitude and would be better on a sounder surface.”

The mare is owned by Henderson's partner, Jane Patten, and was his seventh winner of the National Hunt campaign equalling his total for last season.
