TEENAGER Jaymee Domoney continues to make great strides in his running career.

The 17-year-old added to his accolades with a silver medal at the England Athletics under 20s indoor championships at Sheffield.

Among a top-draw field of 11 athletes in the 1500m final including the current English schools’ champion, the City of Salisbury runner made a steady start.

He then settled into fifth place before making his move at the bell and swooping to clinch second place for his first ever place on a national podium.

And in the process, he clocked a new personal best and under 20 club record of 3mins 53.92secs. The time has put him fourth in the current UK rankings and third in England (only).

Dad Gary Domoney told JournalSport: “Everyone at the club is immensely proud of what Jaymee has achieved so far, and how he has performed while representing City of Salisbury, and for a small club like ours to get on a national podium is a great achievement.

“As his parent, I have seen how hard he has trained since he joined the club, and his determination to put the extra training in and sacrifice other things to achieve the results that are now coming, and could not be more proud of him as I was when he received his medal on Saturday.”

Jaymee, who won the Outstanding Progression in Sport and Athlete of the Year gongs at the Journal Sports Awards, is having a good year.

He has now been offered a sports scholarship to study and train in the USA from August, which he hopes to embark on after completing his A-levels at Bishop Wordsworth’s School.
