SALISBURY swimmers Rob Langan and Phil Muspratt both claimed a handful of medals at the Welsh National Masters Championships at the weekend.

The Wales National Pool in Swansea was the stage for the annual season opener.

Swimmers from across Wales and England flocked to the first big long course meet of the year, before this year's British Championships in June and World Championships in August.

Langan was a man in form, claiming two golds and two silvers. The Salisbury Stingrays swimmer took gold in the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke before taking silver in the 5200m and 50m backstroke.

He said: "It is always good to start the year off with some wins and that's exactly what this weekend was about, setting a marker to then better at each meet leading up to the World Championships in Budapest this year.

"I am now looking ahead to the British Championships in June and training hard until then."

Muspratt also returned with two golds and as many silver medals. He took wins in the two splash and dash events; the 50m freestyle and backstroke before settling for silver in the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

"This is my first event since the European Championships after injury in the winter of last year. My times were way off where I can do but they are what they are," said Muspratt.
