SALISBURY’S parkrun held its 100th event on Easter Saturday, with a record turnout of 592 finishers.

A commemorative banner was unveiled for the occasion, made of patchwork and including pictures of previous runs and quotes from those regularly attending parkrun about why they enjoy the event and what they get out of it.

The banner will be on display at Salisbury parkrun events throughout the summer.

The event which launched in June, 2015, with 237 participants, takes place in Churchill Gardens. It is bigger than any other parkrun in Wiltshire.

At the landmark event, there were 76 runners who were taking part for the first time and 155 runners recorded personal bests.

Among them was Mary Clements running in the 70-74 category, and finishing in a time of 31:57 and Jon Carlisle, the most senior runner in the 75-79 category finishing with an excellent time of 26:23.

Stuart Holloway was the first male finisher, with a time of 16:04, with this being the second fastest time ever at Salisbury and Anne-Marie Bayliss was the first female finisher in 20:49.

The Woodford Ukulele Group entertained the runners and spectators, which added a festive atmosphere to the morning.

Event co-director Jef Hutchby said: “I would like to thank all the volunteers for their continued support of our parkrun which has grown from an average of around 300 last December nearer to an average of 500 in recent months.”
