FORMER Godolphin student Ruby Smith has been selected for the England lacrosse squad to represent her country in this year’s World Cup, which is taking place in Guildford this July.

The 25-year-old has represented England since 2008 and has 50 senior caps, including international duties in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.

Ruby, a PE teacher, will take part in the World Cup which runs from the July 12-22. She told JournalSport: “I can’t tell you how excited and how honoured I am to be in the 18 with the best bunch of girls in a home World Cup.

“It’s been a tough couple of years building up to this selection and even more so because it’s on home soil.”

Ruby has also been selected to represent Great Britain in the World Games, also this summer in Wroclaw Poland, with this being the first time lacrosse has featured in this international multi-sport event, which is one step closer to being included in the Olympic games.
