A FUNDRAISING football match and dinner is being held for six-year-old Ruby-Mae McBride at Shaftesbury Football Club to raise money for a life-saving piece of equipment.

Ruby, a regular at the Ray Mac, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March 2013, and since then she has suffered from heart attack like symptoms and has to have her blood taken 12-15 times a day, which involves waking her up in the night.

With the funds raised she will be able to benefit from a new piece of equipment called a continuous glucose monitor, which will continuously take blood sugar levels and feed the information back to a mobile and will sound an alarm if the blood sugar drops to low.

The football match on Sunday, April 30, will be followed by a dinner with 1966 World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst.

There will be an auction, with items such as a signed Messi boot, a signed Ronaldo boot, a signed Anthony Joshua glove, van hire for six months and a vintage bus ride for 45 people.

The football match will be between Ruby’s Legends XI and Shaftsbury FC, with Warren Cummings captaining Ruby’s side, other players that will be playing are: Jimmy Glass, Stephen Purches, Josh Gowling, Shaun Cooper, Mark Molesley, Brian Stock, James Hayter, Steve Fletcher and Cherno Samba.

Their target is raise £10,000, so far they have raised £7,000 and mum Kay McBride spoke to JournalSport and said: “The support has been incredible.”

Salisbury FC have shown great support in helping Ruby, raising £1,000 in a bucket collection at the Ray Mac.

She has been mascot several times at the Ray Mac this season and Mrs McBride said that the club have been amazing.
