Captaincy honour for Clifford

SALISBURY Athletic Club’s Millie Clifford, 16, captained the South West athletics team to second place at the UK School Games held at Cardiff’s International Stadium.

Twelve teams from across the UK battled over two days in an intense track and field competition designed to simulate international competition. The South West, fielding one of the smaller teams, were narrowly edged out of first place by one point by Yorkshire and Humberside.

n THE Overton five-mile race, the first in the Hampshire Road Race League, proved a good one for Salisbury’s athletes.

Ian Stott led the men home in 12th place overall and was second in the Vet 45 category. Rod Smith was first in Vet 65 and Ben Stott was third junior boy home in the 2.5 mile race in a time of 16.31.
