UNASSUMING Salisbury RFC dismantled an ultra weak Oakmedians seconds to stroll into the next round of the Dorset and Wilts Second XV Cup with a 90-0 whitewash.

The prolific seconds, bolstered by the arrival of a handful of first teamers who were free from their Corsham cup game being cancelled, ensured their opponents were in for a mauling, which nearly resulted in a three-figure scoreline.

The mismatch encounter at Castle Road, played in the sunny conditions, was the sides’ first meeting for several years. And Salisbury, not knowing what to expect, were ruthless in their approach.

Mike Dauwalder’s strong running led to an early try for Toby Moseley, who maintained his try a game record for the season. Soon afterwards, Tom Buckingham went over for the second Salisbury try.

The relentless attack continued and the hosts’ wonderful handling led to debutant Paddy Cartwright crossing the line and Dauwalder added the extras with a try.

Salisbury were then slightly disrupted by injuries, however, that didn’t thwart replacement wing Joe Jackson from executing with his first touch of the ball. This was then followed by Mark Lerpiniere running in Salisbury's sixth try. Sandwiched in between were two further tries by Cartwright, giving him a debut hat-trick before half time and scrumhalf Richard Knight, who spotted a gap and went over in the corner.

One-way traffic was replicated in the second half and further tries went Salisbury’s away. Rupert Coley made the most of Oakmedians’ defence napping and darted his way through for the home side’s 11th try.

Chris Miller then showed his pace and class to score two quick tries before Ashley Wright put the final gloss on the scoreline as the game was abandoned with 15 minutes to go as a visiting player suffered a neck injury.

The seconds face Blandford seconds in the quarter finals.

On Saturday, the firsts return to Southern Counties action where they travel to Supermarine, the seconds host Bridport and the thirds entertain Oakmedians seconds.
