A SIX-TRY fest ensured Salisbury RFC secured a 45-10 win over Trowbridge RFC - their heaviest in South West 1 (East) - at a rain-drenched Castle Road.

Scorers Rob Larcombe, Tom Pottage (2), Christian Metson (2) and Ollie Bowden see Green and Whites climb into fourth place after a third win on the bounce.

Excellent link-up play and handling skills, particularly in the first half, from Liam Gilbert and Dave Tonge allowed Pottage to weave his magic and notch up two tries. His scores came after Larcombe had opened the scoring, with Tom Lane converting all three as well as the penalty to give Salisbury an interval advantage of 24-3.

Shortly after the resumption, Trowbridge, helped by ex-Salisbury forward Shane Johnstone, mounted concerted pressure on the try line. The Salisbury defence, positively marshalled by captain Gilbert, held out. It was at this point the game swung in the home side's favour.

Despite two yellow cards, Salisbury's fitness levels and ball handling skills started to overpower a resilient Trowbridge, even with the late Autumn sun in their eyes. The Gilbert, Tonge and Pottage combination worked well to send Metson to score twice under the posts.

The final converted try was scored by Bowden from a well worked kick by Tom Pottage to round off a satisfying afternoon.

The Salisbury seconds continued their good run of form with a 18-10 win over Frome in Dorset and Wilts

Well worked scores came from Junior Waqavou, Pete Maclennan and captain Iain Miller.

The Salisbury thirds lost 39-10.
