A HISTORY-MAKING season of Salisbury RFC orchestrating back-to-back promotions would be an “astounding achievement” says head coach Dan Jeffries.

His Green and White troops are in contention in fourth place after completing a quarter of the matches since returning to South West 1 (East).

The Castle Road outfit have won three on the spin, losing just once this term and are three points adrift of the top two sides, Maidenhead and Towcestrians, both of which Salisbury haven't lost to.

Jeffries, pictured, who guided Salisbury to play-off promotion from Southern Counties, said: “Winning is a habit and we have developed a positive ethos in the squad. Salisbury has always had a very talented squad and we have focused on playing to our strengths and exploited oppositions’ weaknesses.”

“We have tightened up our game and increased our physicality and now have a real ability to squeeze the opposition out of the game, however our style of play is really directed by the players and their strengths.

“We will see as the season progresses where that leaves us, but we have already taken points off of the top teams this season. Promotion would be an astounding achievement, which I am sure, over time, we will achieve.”

Saturday sees them travel to High Wycombe for the first time since meeting in the national cup last season.

Jeffries, deputy head at Wyvern College, admits he’s cautious of his opponents, despite their beleaguered start. “It will be all about control. We need to squeeze them and build control especially as over the next three weeks all three teams play each other.”

Salisbury RFC are without Tom Ranaboldo or Luke Esnouf for the trip (2.15pm).
