SUPER Salisbury RFC ran in their biggest victory of the season to fasten their grip on second place in South West 1 (East).

Dan Jeffries' men took a giant step towards the play-offs by blowing away lowly High Wycombe 48-10 with just six matches remaining.

James Kay was on the score sheet with barely two minutes on the clock, linking well and streaking clear to go under the posts, Tom Lane dutifully converting.

Kay, putting in an intelligent game on the openside flank, broke again for the second, Lane also converting.

Further Salisbury pressure was rewarded when the tireless Rob Best charged down a clearance for Paddy Dickson to drop on the ball and score, before veteran prop Richard West skipped down the wing, Tonge carried the move on and skipper Liam Gilbert picked up and drove over for the score. The visitors pulled a try back on the stroke of half time.

Salisbury were seemingly unworried by the deteriorating pitch as they exhibited similar endeavour after the break. An attack switched left saw Lane join the line and set Christian Metson away who, in turn, found Hammond in support to draw the defence before returning the ball for Metson to score.

Further slick handling saw Rob Larcombe send Tonge away for a score, Lane converting both of these opportunities. High Wycombe refused to roll over and pulled back another try before Tom Pottage chased a kick ahead and won the race for the touchdown, Lane converting with the last kick of the game.

Salisbury United XV, meanwhile, narrowly defeating Warminster 14-12.
