SIX Nations 2016 champion Mike Brown has pledged to support his former club's £500,000 fundraising project for new changing rooms to put his "shower nightmares to rest".

The full-back, who is on the verge of winning England's first Six Nations Grand Slam since 2003, is backing his boyhood club Salisbury RFC's All Change initiative, which launched on Wednesday night.

Green and Whites are hoping in the summer of 2017 to transform their changing facilities and install a state-of-the-art block.

That includes six self-contained rooms with showers and toilets, medical and match official rooms, disabled access and much-needed storage space.

Former youth star Brown was unable to attend the launch at Castle Road as he's preparing for his country's clash with France in Paris tomorrow (8pm).

Instead, he sent his father, Mick Brown, who lives in Winterslow, to read the following statement.

"If we achieve the Grand Slam I will be able to reflect on the fact that my journey to Paris and a Grand Slam Trophy started as a player in the minis with my old man as the coach at Salisbury.

"From what I remember, the changing rooms, shall we say, had "character" and the shower room used to form the backdrop for some of my worst nightmares. But they were great days playing the sport I love. I often reflect on those days of no pressure, just the pure exhilaration of running with ball in hand and scoring tries.

"I still get the same enjoyment now, but there is a little more pressure to deal with."

"My best wishes for the launch "All Change", good luck with your fundraising and I look forward to visiting the club in the future to see the new facilities and hopefully put my shower nightmares to rest."

Brown is among old boys Matt Evans (Canada) and Richard Hill (England and the British Lions) supporting the campaign, as well as 150 members and sponsors who heard

the plans designed to support rugby at the club for its second 100 years of existence.

Salisbury RFC Chairman Richard Larcombe said: “We are a flourishing club providing a huge amount of rugby to the residents of Salisbury and the wider area. Redeveloping new changing room facilities will not only mean all our players will have the excellent facilities they deserve, but support the ability to allow both sexes and all ages to train and play at the same time.

"These are exciting times for the club.”

With five games remaining, Dan Jeffries' first team charges occupy second place in South West 1 (East) as they bid for promotion.

If successful, they could be playing National League 3 South West rugby next season.

It is estimated the club, after expected grants, will need to raise £350,000 in just over a year for the project.

The club say they also want to re-establish a women's rugby team.
