Salisbury RFC will be playing rugby in the National League next season.

Green and Whites booked their ticket to the fifth tier of English rugby after fending off Thornbury 26-24 in an enthralling South West play-off final.

The Bristol-based visitors were heading for a famous victory when leading by one point with moments left at Castle Road.

But a 77th minute penalty kick from Tom Lane, who had missed two kicks just moments before, snatched a late three points and win for the hosts.

The result sees Dan Jeffries' charges, roared on by a bumper crowd of 500, complete back-to-back promotions.

They will join a range of semi-professional clubs next season in National League South West 3.
