FULL-BACK Tom Lane was feeling overwhelmed after his last-gasp penalty kick floated over the posts to snatch a dramatic win for Salisbury RFC.

Lane thumped the match-winning kick three minutes left on the clock to seal a 26-24 victory against Thornbury.

Just moments earlier, he had missed two kicks and was left feeling enormous pressure on the third time of asking.

"It's overwhelming, I was so nervous," he told JournalSport.

"I didn't know how much time was left on the clock so I almost said let's go for the line and get a try, but the lads were like, no, you can get it.

"I took it and it went over.

"It was very tense. You could hear a pin drop.

As soon as I hit it I knew it was going over. It was such a good hit.

"It's been a good year."

Lane was added to Dan Jeffries' squad at the beginning of the season after leaving Southern Counties South side Sherborne.

Now Lane, known as Borrisjnr on Twitter and to his teammates, cannot wait to start life in National League South West 3.

"I couldn't be anymore happier, really," he added.

"I'm just glad we got the win, the pressure was there the whole game.

"It was a good tense game, they were good in defence and in attack.

We had to keep going, and going, and eventually got the win.

It's going to be tough.

"We're going to have to have a good pre-season and put some extra work in and try and stay up."

Salisbury's victory meant they preserved their 19-month unbeaten run at Castle Road.
