SALISBURY RFC's promotion-winning season was capped by honouring a community stalwart with a traditional rugby game.

The annual Joe Osmond Memorial Match saw the club's current Colts take on ex-Colts, which comprised several first-teamers fresh from sealing promotion to the National League.

Osmond, who was killed 19 years ago, worked tirelessly at the Castle Road Club.

Organiser Marcus Olsen, himself a former Colt who benefitted from Osmond's support, said: "Joe was a wonderful, genuine man who will always be in the memory of the ex-Colts. Joe believed in the true ethos of the game."

Afterwards team captains, Josh Stace for the Colts and Marcus Olsen for the former Colts, were presented with the trophy - a replica of Osmond's walking stick - by his sister Mary. The trophy is always shared regardless of the score.

This year, in addition to remembering Osmond, the players observed a minute's silence before the game in memory of Mark "Rocky" Rogers.

Rogers, who had been a stalwart of the club for many years and played for the ex-Colts in last year's game, died at the end of April.

Salisbury RFC president Simon Hedges said: "The annual Colts versus ex-Colts

match is the point in the rugby calendar at Salisbury where the past and the future collide.

"Our Colts are undoubtedly our future as the players look forward to striding onto the stage of senior rugby. For the ex-Colts, the game is a chance to renew old friendships on and off the field and test their fitness and guile against the speed and enthusiasm of the younger players."
