HUSDON's Field was the hive of activity on Sunday when Salisbury RFC hosted their annual mini-rugby tournament.

Some 950 players attended, aged from seven to 13, as well as parents, coaches and other helpers.

The teams, from across the country, played in their age groups, with clubs able to enter more than one team in each group to make sure all the players got plenty of game time.

The tournament was filled with a competitive spirit but the emphasis, as always, is on enjoying the game and developing skills.

Salisbury RFC president Simon Hedges said he enjoyed the spectacle.

"The youth players are the future of the game of rugby," he said.

"It is great to see so much energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment - and if we can keep the players interested the future looks healthy."
