A Veterans’ Sevens competition and a Walking Rugby event took place.

The Green and Whites of Salisbury were the Sevens Winners with the Blue and Golds, also from Salisbury, coming runner- up.

The Walking Rugby event is said to be the first Inter Club Walking Rugby event that has taken place in England.

Salisbury Rugby Club and Bristol Rugby both entered two sides apiece, with the Salisbury Zimmers and Strollers taking on Bristol 1 and Pick and Mix.

Referees were provided from the Bishop Wordsworth 1st XV who did a fine job in charge.

Neil Bowditch’s ‘Salisbury Strollers’ clinched victory with a four try to three victory over Bristol 1, Peter King’s ‘Salisbury Zimmers’ claimed third place and Bristol’s ‘Pick and Mix’ were the Wooden Spoon victors.

Walking Rugby has become something of a talking point locally and was only started at Salisbury Rugby Club by Pat Clash at the beginning of January.

The enthusiasm of those playing the walking side of the sport is evident and with an average age of 65 it is surprisingly competitive, fairly fast moving and great fun and the sport is gaining in popularity.

Walking Rugby is played at Salisbury Rugby Club every Wednesday at 6.30 and is open to both men and women over 50 years of age.

No experience is necessary just pitch up and play. Contact Pat Clash by email clashpat@gmail.com or 07985913732.
