MANY teenagers have signed up for the new Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League which features a brand new category.

As well as competing for the Graham Lee Memorial Trophy, four young potters from the Salisbury area will be vying for a junior award.

Bidding to land the title of South Wilts U21 Champion are James Bolton, from Amesbury, who will be 20 on Wednesday, Alderholt’s 16-year-old Ally Pollard, Kaine Petty, 15, from Fordingbridge and 14- year-old Callum McDonald from Bishopdown, who made his debut last season, but is yet to win a match.

Ten players kick off the league’s tenth season on December 5, which was founded in 2005 in memory of the former Durrington professional, who died suddenly in 2004 at the age of 44.

Matches will take place at Salisbury Snooker Club on alternate Thursday evenings until next April.

Aiming to teach the youngsters a thing or two are old hands and league stalwarts Richard Arnold, Martin Hill, Steve Ashton, Paul Burt and seven-time and defending champion John Hunter, from Andover.

Also joining the league this season is Salisbury’s Adam Guyatt, who used to compete on the Cuestars junior circuit.
