HOCKEY starlets from Pitton Primary School impressed at the county finals in Swindon.

The Salisbury youngsters, who have never played on a large pitch or artificial surface before, progressed through to the final where they settled for runnersup after losing out to a solitary goal.

Winners Ramsbury, boasting four players from Marlborough Hockey Club, edged the closely-fought final.

Physical education coordinator Emma Wilkinson praised the schoolchildren, and coach Caroline Wilkinson, for their success.

“The school’s very proud of the team,” she said.

“They were not only fantastic team players, encouraging each other throughout, but gracious in defeat. These attributes show what wonderful children we have at our school. We are looking forward to next year.”
