SALISBURY RFC under 12s missed out on the luxury of playing at the home of English rugby.

The Castle Road juniors, pictured, played in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup, which attracts more than 7,000 juniors nationwide, at Trowbridge Rugby Club where they were knocked out. Elimination resulted in the team losing out on a potential appearance in the half time interval of the Aviva Premiership Grand Final at Twickenham.

However, the under 12s didn’t leave empty-handed after lifting the plate following victory over Taunton.

Forward Ben Green, 11, who is captain of the side, said: “It feels good because we did it.

“We didn’t get the cup but we got the plate and our coach said this was our best game we played.

“We played at this festival last year but it was really bad weather so we didn’t play to the best of our ability, so knowing we haven’t come away empty-handed this time is great.

“I’ve got good friends at this club and I know my team mates well. I think that’s important because you feel more comfortable around each other so you can play better.”
