YEAR 5 and 6 girls at Downton Primary School are hoping to be crowned champions of Wiltshire at the county finals day.

Ahead of the team’s road trip to Stanley Park Sports Ground, Chippenham on Wednesday, they have received a brand new kit to help them on their way.

The budding juniors reached the finals day after defeating St Mark’s in the final of Salisbury schools’ girls’ football festival.

More than 30 schools, including ten from the girls section, are bidding for silverware next week.

Head coach Hilary Clapperton said: “I am exceptionally proud of the girls who have come together to form a very happy, yet hard working and formidable football team.

“We are incredibly lucky at Downton to have a very dedicated team of well qualified sports coaches who come from both within the school and the wider community.”

“The kit, sponsored by Ben Smith Joinery, is a fantastic and generous addition to the team as it now enables the girls to really look the part.”

If Downton schoolgirls are victorious, they will represent Wiltshire in a south west competition later in the year.
