NEWLY-FORMED Salisbury Spires Under-16 started their adventure at the Solent Area Basketball Association (SABA) tournament.
The basketball team, formed this year from pupils at St Joseph’s, Bishop Wordsworth’s, Test Valley and Burgate, shrugged off Eastleigh Kestrels 38-34 before losing to Weymouth 37-26.
Founder and coach Aleister Martin said: “To lose the lead and then work hard to steal the win in the last quarter was an excellent effort.”
"It was their first competitive league match, and their first win too.
"I am very pleased for the boys – well played."
