A GOLD Wiltshire cross country medal and two silvers were the haul for three young City of Salisbury athletes at the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire annual championships staged at Bath University.

Against strong competition and in unexpected mild conditions, Abigail Burn took the county title with a stunning performance in the under-15s' 3.8k race, clocking a rapid 14min 28sec. Little more than a minute behind her, Louise Webb did well to seal silver.

The under-20s' men’s race over 5.7k was combined with the under-17s which made Jaymee Domoney’s second place all the more commendable as he beat all the older opposition on his way to a fine silver medal. Fabrice Webb took sixth.

Rose Warren was the sole representative in the under-13' over 2.8k where she too came a respectable sixth, while, in the boys’ event, Nile Battey just missed a medal in fourth place ahead of Nathan Burn’s seventh.

Among the senior women, Sarah Warren continued her good form finishing tenth and Aly Sloane was close on her heels in 14th.

In the Hampshire league fixture at Bournemouth, standout performance of the day came from Alicia Finnis. Competing in the under 13s against girls up to two years older than herself, she fell during the race and was accidentally trodden before she could get back on her feet - but then regained her momentum and finished a brave 22nd, one place behind clubmate Rose Warren.

Alex D’Arbost took an impressive sixth place in the under 15 boys’ event.

At the Tailwind 10mile multi terrain in the New Forest, veteran Nicky Yevko clocked 73.14 for an excellent second place in the women’s race.
