AN up-and-coming football club are the recipients of a grant that will help fund three new teams.

Salisbury Rovers FC were handed a cheque for £4,500 from Grow the Game grant from the Football Foundation.

The club are to use the money to create the girls' teams over the next two years for teams in the under 8s and under 13s.

The project will also enable coaches to be trained and coaching sessions to be targeted at growing the girls' game.

"We're absolutely delighted with the success of our application to the Football Foundation," said club secretary Debbie Sayers.

"We are determined to use this funding to develop the girls' game in Salisbury and place it on an equal footing to the boys."

Sky Sports News presenter, Hayley McQueen, who is an ambassador for Football Foundation, congratulated the football club.

She said: "Very well done to Salisbury Rovers FC for working with the Football Foundation and Wiltshire County FA to secure this Grow the Game grant. The investment, which is provided by the Premier League and The FA, has created an opportunity for more people to play football, which will not only keep them fit and healthy but also develop their life-skills."

Salisbury Rovers are holding a special session to mark the start of the Euros.

The club are hosting a special event on Saturday, June 11 - the day England play their opener against Russia - from 10am to 1pm at the Portway.

The price of the session will be £3.50, which includes a picnic lunch.
