Rihanna's fashion sense is inspired by her UK fans, the music star has revealed.

The Diamonds singer, who will unveil her debut fashion collection with River Island at London Fashion Week in February, admitted that her range is "edgy" yet "chic".

"The British high street has the most fashionable kids and people. They just have so much fashion and the high end designers are inspired by these kids," she said in a behind-the-scenes video on the River Island website.

"I thought, why not go to the source? We want to be ahead of the trend and have something inspirational - new fashion," she added.

The collection, which has been designed by the fashion icon herself, will include various pieces for "all body types".

"My style is definitely inspired by my mood, so this collection will have a range of different moods and different items. The collection is casual, it's chic, it's flirty," she continued.

"I wanted it for all body types and all types of girls so they can wear this and feel comfortable in it, but still feel edgy. I want my character to come out in the clothes without trying too hard."

Rihanna - who has already created her own perfume - admitted she has longed to have a clothing range in her name for years.

"I've wanted to design my own fashion range for a very long time. This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion," she said.

"I am passionate about it. Every time I saw something on the back, I wanted to change it and I thought the only way to do that is to design the perfect thing for me. This is my way of doing that."
