Kristen Wiig is attached to star in the Anchorman sequel, The Legend Continues.

The Bridesmaids actress had been rumoured to join the highly anticipated follow-up as the love interest for Steve Carell's character Brick Tamland, and director-writer Adam McKay has now confirmed the casting.

"Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!" he tweeted.

Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve are all set to reprise their roles for Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

Vince Vaughn has hinted that he could also return as rival newsreader Wes Mantooth in the movie.

The Anchorman sequel, which is expected for a December 2013 release in the US, follows the San Diego news crew at the dawn of the 24-hour news cycle.
