Johansson reveals Les Mis audition

Scarlett Johansson auditioned for the role of Fantine in Les Mis
Scarlett Johansson has admitted she auditioned for the role of Fantine in Les Miserables, but lost out to Anne Hathaway.
The Avengers Assemble star was rumoured to have been in the running for the role of Fantine's daughter Cosette, which eventually went to Amanda Seyfried. But Scarlett told Broadway.com she auditioned for Fantine - the role which has scooped Anne a bunch of awards - in Tom Hooper's musical movie, while battling laryngitis.
Scarlett said: "I sang my little heart out... And I auditioned with laryngitis. I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis."
The Lost In Translation beauty insisted she wasn't nervous, and having seen the film, doesn't think she could have beaten Anne's Bafta and Golden Globe-winning performance.
Scarlett said: "[Nervous] are you kidding? The jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon!
"And I think looking at the film now, there's no possible way I ever could have topped that performance [by Anne Hathaway]. It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be. But, yes, the audition itself brought back so many memories of auditioning for Les Mis for the young Cosette, and it was fun for me to revisit that."
Scarlett is currently starring in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof on Broadway.
