Christian Bale is reportedly set to star in a new movie about an expedition up Mount Everest.

The Batman star is in "early talks" about the role in director Baltasar Kormakur's Everest, according to Deadline.

So far there's no word on who else is in line for the film, which is based on a disastrous expedition to scale the mountain in 1996 which saw several climbers lose their lives.

The story was originally chronicled in Jon Krakauer's bestseller Into Thin Air.

Christian has several movies coming up, including thriller Out Of The Furnace and an as yet untitled drama from filmmaker David O Russell.
