Lily Allen has kept her grip on the top of the singles charts in the lead-up to Christmas after a suffering a minor drop a few weeks ago.

Her cover of Keane's Somewhere Only We Know, which features on John Lewis's Christmas TV advertisement, first reached the chart summit three weeks ago, beating both Bastille and Gary Barlow in the closest number one race of the year so far.

But two weeks ago, she lost the top spot to Calvin Harris, Alesso and Hurts' Under Control before gaining it back last week.

This week she kept the top spot, beating out Avicii's Hey Brother in second spot and X Factor winner Leona Lewis' One More Sleep in third.

It is Lily's third UK number one single following Smile in 2006 and The Fear in 2009, and is hotly tipped to be this year's Christmas number one.

Leona's Christmas hit surged up the charts to reach third spot after debuting at 34th place last week.

American rapper Pharrell Williams' Happy was not far behind, claiming fourth despite sitting in 30th a week ago.

Ellie Goulding's How Long Will I Love You? rounded out this week's top five.

Justin Bieber's collaboration with rapper Chance, Confident, was the only new single in the chart, debuting at 33.

Meanwhile in the albums chart, Robbie Williams' Swings Both Ways knocked One Direction back to second spot.

The boy band had held on to the number one spot for two weeks after their third studio full-length album became the the fastest-selling artist album of 2013 so far, shifting 237,000 copies during its first week on sale.

Gary Barlow's Since I Saw You Last remained at third spot while Olly Murs' Right Place Right Time was also able to keep its grip on fourth.

Pop diva Beyonce's controversial self-titled album rocketed into fifth spot to debut in the charts.

The chart's only new album, it courted controversy for the feminist singer's provocative lyrics and scantily clad images in her accompanying music videos.
