Clancy: Junk food secret to success

Salisbury Journal: Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec won the Strictly glitterball trophy Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec won the Strictly glitterball trophy

Abbey Clancy has confessed a diet of junk food helped fuel her Strictly Come Dancing win.

The 28-year-old model and her dancing partner Aljaz Skorjanec are taking to the road for the Strictly Live tour after claiming the glitterball trophy in the 2013 dance competition.

Abbey, who claims she has never exercised, revealed junk food was the secret to their success.

Aljaz revealed: "I think we ate something unhealthy every single day, we did rehearse a lot, so we had to eat something heavy to keep us going, so I think that was the key of success, junk food and bad food."

Abbey laughed: "You need the energy!"

And despite her slender physique, Abbey - who is married to footballer Peter Crouch - insists she has never exercised before Strictly.

She said: "I've never trained in my life, the only exercise I do is lifting my little daughter up, who's really heavy. And I used to do a bit of horse riding, but apart from that I don't do any exercise. So it was nice to keep fit in an enjoyable way like dancing."

Meanwhile, former Westlife star Nicky Byrne who is also on the live tour, admitted being in the boyband hadn't given him much advantage when it came to dancing. Westlife were famous for sitting on stools while performing as a lot of their hits are slow ballads.

Nicky said: "Before Strictly, the last time I danced was the farewell tour. But I don't know if you can call the Westlife farewell tour dancing so much! It's certainly not as critiqued and technical as ballroom dancing.

"Some of the stuff we did on Strictly I'd never even heard of; couldn't even spell it!"
