Oprah inspired by others' success

Salisbury Journal: Oprah Winfrey is inspired by the success of others Oprah Winfrey is inspired by the success of others

Oprah Winfrey has revealed she is most inspired by the breakthroughs of others.

The Butler star, who runs her own television network and magazine, is best known for her award winning and influential talk show.

Speaking on the red carpet at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where she was presented with the Montecito Award, Oprah said she loves to see inspiration in others.

"I get really turned on when people have their own 'a-h'a moments, like when I was working on my shows every day and people would say, 'I never saw it like that before.' What inspires me is inspiring other people."

After success as an actress in movies like The Color Purple, Beloved and Precious, Oprah made a triumphant return to the big screen with The Butler opposite Forest Whitaker.

Speaking about the acting award given to her by the film festival in the town where she lives, Oprah said: "This is my town, Chicago made me, I wouldn't be able to stand here without Chicago but I can't wait to grow roots in Santa Barbara, I love this community and I don't know anybody who lives here who doesn't feel the same way."

The 60-year-old, who is viewed by many as one of the most influential women in the world, celebrated her birthday last week, but said she kept it relatively low key.

"I had lunch with my dear friend Maria Shriver, just the two of us. We have been friends since we were in our twenties.

"Then I had some friends over from Santa Barbara and we had dinner outside on January 29. I am doing something big this weekend but not for myself, I find it much easier to spend big bucks on other people, so I am having a big party and a big gospel brunch for one of my dear friends and neighbours because when I was 50 he threw a big party for me."

Leonardo Di Caprio, Robert Redford and Bruce Dern will also be honoured in Santa Barbara later in the festival.
