Steve Jones has revealed being axed from The X Factor USA helped him show people what he's made of.
The Welsh star was snapped up by Simon Cowell to present the US version of the singing competition in 2011, but was dropped after just one season.
However, the pragmatic star revealed he chose to handle the situation with "grace".
"I think it's important to change," he said. "Something like being let go after the first series of The X Factor, you can cave in on yourself like a dying star, or you can use that situation to show people the type of person you are.
"[You can show] that you can handle it with grace and poise and be a bit classy about it."
Steve, 36, continued: "These things happen to all of us every day and it's up to you to handle them to the best of your abilities.
"I enjoyed The X Factor USA and I'll always be grateful to Simon and all the team for giving me the opportunity. I don't dwell on this stuff. I did it, I enjoyed it, I moved on and now I'm doing different stuff and that's the way it goes. That's TV, that's the industry."
Steve also revealed that he got plenty out of his trip Stateside - his girlfriend, model Phylicia Jackson.
"I met my girlfriend in the States and managed to persuade her to come back to Britain with me, so it was definitely a worthwhile trip!" he said.
The star's next presenting gig is BBC Three's Hair. The six-part series sees eight budding hair enthusiasts competing against each other in styling and cutting challenges to be crowned the nation's best amateur hair stylist.
:: Hair starts on BBC Three tonight (February 25) at 9pm.
