Winona Ryder has revealed she rents a cottage in the back garden of her hero Dame Helen Mirren, who comes round to sort out DIY jobs for her.

The Edward Scissorhands star told Red magazine that The Queen actress Helen was the ideal landlady, even fixing things when they break, according to The Sun.

She said: "She and Taylor Hackford (Helen's husband) have this mansion and I rent a little cottage in the back. If I'm having a problem with the house she'll come and fix it.

"She is everything you would hope she'd be, wonderful, warm and funny."

Winona said she was a big fan of Helen's TV crime series Prime Suspect, saying: "I had to tell her I love Prime Suspect so much that for 10 years I stayed in hotels under the name Jane Tennison."

Black Swan actress Winona also said that her red carpet Oscars look wasn't always as glamorous as people might expect.

"I've worn dresses to the Oscars that I got for 10 dollars," she said.
