Bars And Melody aim for 1D success

Salisbury Journal: Bars And Melody (Charlie Lenehan and Leondre Devries) say they'd love to have One Direction's success Bars And Melody (Charlie Lenehan and Leondre Devries) say they'd love to have One Direction's success

Bars And Melody's Leondre Devries and Charlie Lenehan have said they would love to achieve the same level of success as One Direction.

The duo, made up of rapper Leondre, 13, and singer Charlie, 15, were so impressive at their Britain's Got Talent audition that head judge Simon Cowell picked them as his Golden Buzzer choice to go straight through to the live semi-finals.

Charlie, who performed the singing part of their Hope by Twista and Faith Evans duet, said: "Anyone who's actually made it in music is an inspiration because it's such a good career industry to be in. To do what you love is amazing, and to be able to do what every other singer or rapper does, touring and everything."

Leondre, who wrote the rap part of their audition about having been bullied at school, said: "I just want to tour the world, that'd be my main dream, and obviously I'm inspired a lot by One Direction because they started on X Factor, they work as a unit, they are never individuals and I think it works really well."

He continued: "One Direction are in a whole different league to us at the moment and hopefully..."

"We could get into that league," finished Charlie.

Leondre added: "They're so good at what they do and their fan base is amazing, probably one of the best in the world. I'd love to achieve what they've achieved."

Asked if he thought Simon Cowell, who put the boy band together, could launch their careers as successfully, Leondre replied: "Simon Cowell is Simon Cowell, whatever he says goes."

Charlie agreed: "To have Simon backing us it would be amazing, the opportunity of a lifetime."

Leondre admitted he knew how lucky he and Charlie were to have won Simon's support, saying: "It doesn't happen to just anyone and it never normally happens to just normal people who auditioned, started out with nothing and now we've actually achieved something not many people have achieved. It just feels amazing."

The young rapper also said his other inspirations were acts a bit closer to the type of music he does.

He said: "I love Tupac, all the old school rappers, Kid 'n' Play, because obviously they were two rappers, and Kris Kross, I try to look at how they perform on stage and I try to bring it out in my performance because they've got such good stage presence."
