Dance duo Paddy and Nico out of BGT

Salisbury Journal: Paddy and Nico have dropped out of Britain's Got Talent Paddy and Nico have dropped out of Britain's Got Talent

Britain's Got Talent hopefuls Paddy and Nico have had to withdraw from Britain's Got Talent on doctor's orders.

The 79-year-old salsa dancer and her partner Nicolas Espinosa, who were judge Amanda Holden's Golden Buzzer act, were forced to pull out from the live semi-final tomorrow (May 31) after Paddy injured her ribs during rehearsals.

"We're sad to say that following an injury sustained while rehearsing for her semi-final routine, and after seeking medical advice, Paddy will not be able to perform in the semi-final. Unfortunately because of this Paddy and Nico have had to withdraw from the competition," a spokesman for the show said.

Amanda expressed her disappointment that the dancing duo won't be able to continue in the competition.

Amanda said: "I'm devastated Paddy and Nico won't be dancing in the finals. Ever since I first saw Paddy dance I fell in love with her. She epitomises everything which Britain's Got Talent is about, she is a sheer joy to watch and an inspiration.

"Her audition was breathtaking and that's why I pressed my Golden Buzzer. I was so looking forward to her and Nico wowing us with another amazing routine in the semi-finals and I really think she could have won the whole show.

"The most important thing though is that she makes a speedy recovery and gets back to living life to the full."

A show source revealed that Paddy cracked her rib whilst rehearsing in Spain with Nico on the routine they had choreographed for the semi finals.

"Given her age and the injury there isn't any way she will be able to perform. We did look at whether she may be able to do a scaled down, less energetic version of her routine but obviously Paddy's health and welfare had to come first so sadly it just won't be possible for her to perform," the insider added.

Sarah 'Paddy' Jones and Nico wowed all four judges - Amanda, Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams - with their exuberant moves when they appeared in the first episode of the series, and Amanda gave them her coveted Golden Buzzer, sending them straight through to the live shows.

The pair faced controversy following their successful audition as it emerged that they previously won a Spanish talent competition, although Simon defended their right to compete in Britain's Got Talent.

The last Britain's Got Talent live semi-final takes place on ITV1 on May 31, with the final on June 7.
