Cara Delevingne could be starring as a surfer girl in a new Beach Boys musical.

The English model - who has been snapped having plenty of Fun, Fun, Fun in the sun and sea so far this summer - is in talks to take a lead role in musical All Summer Long, according to Deadline.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron - producers of hit musical movies Hairspray and Chicago - are teaming up with John Stamos for the project, who they previously worked with on 2000 ABC TV biopic The Beach Boys: An American Family.

Details of the plot are under wraps, but it is described as a 1960s California-set story inspired by the band's hits, and Cara would play lead female character Caroline.

Fox splashed out two million US dollars (£1.2 million) in 2010 on rights to the Beach Boys catalogue and the pitch for the musical from Susannah Grant.

Cara, 22, had a small part in Joe Wright's Anna Karenina in 2012 but is slowly making her move into acting with several films due out, including London Fields co-starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and British coming of age indie film Kids In Love.

She also has a role in Peter Pan origins film Pan which is currently shooting.

A Beach Boys biopic Love And Mercy is also currently in the pipeline which will star Paul Dano and John Cusack as frontman Brian Wilson at different stages in his life.
