Vanessa Hudgens celebrated her 21st birthday in style with a surprise Hollywood bash.

The High School Musical star wore a black mini dress with lace cut-out arms when she arrived with heart-throb boyfriend Zac Efron at the do to be greeted by around 100 friends.

"When she walked in, she was completely surprised! She seemed overjoyed and grateful for the whole experience," a guest told People.com.

The couple were loved-up all night and Zac gave a heartfelt speech before bringing out a red velvet birthday cake at the bash at East bar and restaurant.

A guest reported: "Zac and Vanessa were adorable together. They were smiling at each other and laughing and are really sweet to each other."

Zac is currently starring in Me And Orson Welles alongside Claire Danes

Friends at the event included Vanessa's fellow Disney stars Ashley Tisdale, Selena Gomez and Corbin Bleu.
