Miley Cyrus has revealed that she is planning to release a new album early next year.

The former Hannah Montana star, whose last studio album was 2010's Can't Be Tamed, told Billboard that she has been working on her new music for months.

The 19-year-old said: "I've been in so many sessions and just kind of bunkering down and working really hard and perfecting everything.

"I've never really had time to do that, to have my record kind of 'done' and then sit there and make it until it's perfect. So, it's been really, really fun. This whole year that's all I've really dedicated life to."

Miley, who is engaged to Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth, said she is hoping to unveil "a sick record".

The star revealed she plans to have a single out by the end of this year, with the album following early in 2013.
