Police searching for an Indian student missing since a New Year's Eve party have found a body.
Souvik Pal, 18, disappeared on a night out at the Warehouse Project in Trafford, Greater Manchester. He was last seen at the event at about 11pm and was reported missing by a flatmate the following morning.
Mr Pal is an international student and is studying at Manchester Metropolitan University.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers searching for missing Souvik Pal have found a body in water in Old Trafford.
"Specialist officers made the discovery in the Bridgewater Canal.
"Formal identification is not due to take place until after the body has been safely recovered.
"The family of Souvik Pal has been informed of this development and specially trained officers are in regular contact with them."
Mr Pal's father Santanu travelled from his home in Bangalore to help with the search.
A number of appeals were made to trace his son including the use of digital advertising hoardings at Manchester United's Premier League home game against Liverpool.
Mr Pal had trained for a part-time job serving refreshments at Old Trafford and worked at the game against West Bromwich Albion on December 29.
