New Legion memorial to be unveiled
The Royal British Legion is to unveil its new "Never Forget" memorial, helping the memory of loved ones to be kept alive.
There will be a service of commemoration at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire attended by representatives from the Legion and the Arboretum, invited guests and members of the public.
They will include Amanda Binnie, wife of 23-year-old Sean Binnie who was killed in an ambush in Helmand province, Afghanistan, in May 2009. Mrs Binnie will officially open the memorial and plant an "everlasting poppy" in her husband's memory.
The centre point of the new memorial is a poppy wreath around which everlasting poppies will be planted, inscribed with individual names and dates, to form a permanent tribute to people's loved ones.
The Arboretum is the UK's year-round centre for remembrance. It is a lasting memorial to those who serve their country, have died in conflict or have a special reason for being remembered.
