A five-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries after a fire engulfed the car he was in - also injuring a six-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman.
Hampshire police have launched an investigation into the blaze involving the Ford Fiesta car in Merdon Castle Lane, Hursley, which happened at 8pm yesterday.
A police spokesman said: "Hampshire Constabulary is investigating the cause of a fire in Hursley which has left three people with serious injuries.
"Emergency services responded to a call from a member of the public just after 8pm on Monday, August 11 who reported a car fire on Merdon Castle Lane.
"A 37-year-old woman, a six-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, all from Southampton, were rescued from the fire and transported to hospital.
"The woman and girl are described as being in a serious condition. The boy is described as having suffered life threatening injuries.
"The police investigation is focusing on the cause of the fire. The next-of-kin have been informed of the incident and specially trained officers are supporting them at this time."
