Delia Hughes was bludgeoned to death at her home in Southampton (Hampshire police/PA)
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an 85-year-old pensioner found bludgeoned to death in her home.
The 24-year-old, from the Bitterne area of Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Delia Hughes on Sunday morning, Hampshire police said.
Mrs Hughes was found by relatives at her ground-floor flat in Atlantic Close, Ocean Village, Southampton, on August 18.
A post-mortem examination found she died from blunt force injuries.
"The man remains in police custody at this time and is being interviewed by detectives from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team (HMIT)," a spokeswoman said.
The latest development comes after detectives projected 12-ft high CCTV images of a "significant witness" they wanted to speak to in connection with the murder on buildings in Southampton over the weekend.
Mrs Hughes was originally from Blackpool in Lancashire but had lived in Southampton for the past 17 years.
Before she retired, she had worked as a supervisor for Littlewoods.
