Top seed Novak Djokovic cruised into the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships with victory over Spain's Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Djokovic needed just 57 minutes to secure a 6-1 6-3 win and set up a last-eight clash with Russian sixth seed Mikhail Youzhny, who earlier defeated British wild card James Ward 6-1 7-6 (7/3).

Fourth seed Roger Federer remained on course to face Djokovic in the semi-finals after overcoming an erratic performance to beat Radek Stepanek in three sets.

Federer lost his opening service game in each set and looked in real trouble at the start of the decider as he trailed 2-0, but the former world number one won the next five games in a row and eventually secured a 6-2 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 victory in two hours and nine minutes.

"It was almost a bit too late for everything, but I kind of hung around and I took the positives out of the match," said Federer, who will next face Lukas Rosol after the Czech player beat eighth seed Dmitry Tursunov in straight sets.

"Radek did a good job of putting the pressure on me and mixing it up. From that standpoint, it was a really difficult match. I'm very pleased to come through."

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga received a walkover after Nikolay Davydenko was forced out of the tournament with a rib injury, the Frenchman facing third seed Tomas Berdych in the last eight after Berdych thrashed Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 6-1.

The remaining quarter-final sees Philipp Kohlschreiber, who beat Andreas Seppi 6-3 6-3, take on Tunisia's Malek Jaziri, who beat fellow wild card Somdev Devvarman 6-3 7-5.
