AS I read your Running on empty' front-page story last week, I wondered if the acres of water in the dozens of gravel pits lining the Fordingbridge-Ringwood road are used to feed the areas water supplies?

If not, then wouldn't this be a sensible use of available resources?

It can't be beyond the wit or engineering resources at our disposal to connect the lakes with the nearest cleansing plants and supplement our rain fall.
