Are our roads worst in county

AFTER spending hours reporting the road defects to Wiltshire Council I feel the need to express my concerns in a more public manner.

I’m sure many Journal readers have similar complaints, but this year the local road network appears to be literally crumbling away.

Repairs to pothole strewn roads last a matter of days, and even when roads are resurfaced the drains are not level so the roads still feel awful to drive on.

Surely something has to be done? I honestly feel our road network must be the worst for cracks, holes and sunken drains in the region.

Can I urge all readers to send letters of complaint to Wiltshire Council until something positive is done.

WILTSHIRE Council tells us it has fixed 22,575 potholes in the past four years.

I wonder at what cost and how many have been repaired more than once. And what are the figures for south Wiltshire? I suspect too many.

The work is generally very poor, with patches unsealed and often short of enough material too.

I believe the roads in south Wiltshire and the city as well as the pavements in the city are the worst in the county, perhaps even the southwest.

OUR roads and pavements are not quite all potholes, roadworks, toil and trouble. It depends where you live. Courtesy of Highways, at the end of Victoria Road is a yellow plastic bunker full of salt for slippery roads and pavements. Come the recent snow, lo and behold, my splendid neighbour asked if he could borrow my wheelbarrow and set about spreading the stuff along our pavements. Other young fellows helped him too. To cap that very good deed he cleared up the mess it left when all the snow and ice had gone.

As one who often takes a gloomy view of where Salisbury and the rest of the world is going, I felt humbled, encouraged and very grateful.
