Another small independent business closes
2:07pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Salisbury Letters
SO another independent retail shop closes its doors after approximately three years of trading.
Goomama of Winchester Street, Salisbury is the latest casualty of sky-rocketing business rates and ridiculous parking charges.
When is the council going to get the message? Or perhaps they do not worry about the small independent store trying to bring a bit of variety to our city centre, as opposed to keeping all the big high street names happy.
It will be interesting to see who the premises will be let to. I would hope another independent is willing to give things a bash, or perhaps it will be yet another charity outlet or even another coffee bar.
Come on you halfwits in the council; can you not see the wood for the trees? We are all trying to make decent honest living, but soon you will end up with big high street chains only, and all the independents will have sadly disappeared.
Not to sound like a moaning retailer, but more foresight is needed for all of our future.
GRAHAM HAYBALL, Salisbury
