Don't be lonely, join social group
10:25am Thursday 31st October 2013 in Salisbury Letters
THERE has been a great deal of talk on the radio recently about ‘loneliness’ which has inspired me to write this letter. Life can be devastating when you lose a partner or break up a relationship but slowly you have to make a new life as a single person.
I would like to introduce the Accord Social Group which is a group of friendly people who are single for a variety of reasons although mainly through bereavement. We have members in their fifties, sixties and seventies who have improved their social life and made many new friends helping them to overcome loneliness and gain confidence.
Our new venue is the meeting room upstairs at the Cathedral Hotel, Salisbury. We meet on a Monday evening at 8pm for a chat and a drink, and have an ongoing programme of events, among them are visits to the Playhouse where we shall see The Recruiting Officer and we also look forward to seeing Fawlty Towers at Studio Theatre. Some members go to Sixties dances whilst others enjoy concerts and ballet, and we all enjoy meals out.
If you are on your own and would like to get out more to make new friends, give us a ring (Alan: 01722 327665 Jeanne: 01722 322802).
JEANNE RUSHBY, Salisbury
