'Our dying city'
10:42am Thursday 31st October 2013 in Salisbury Letters
I read with interest the article in the Journal dated October 24 regarding Wiltshire Council finally finding extra money to repair our crumbling road system in south Wiltshire. I noted with some amusement the comments of Wiltshire Council leader, Jane Scott, who denied that most of the £21m per year would be spent in the north of the county and stating that more had been spent in the south last year than the north.
Following a recent visit to Trowbridge (home to the headquarters of Wiltshire Council) and noting the many re-surfaced roads in and around Trowbridge, I would suggest that last year’s extra spending in south Wiltshire is only partially remedying the neglect of the south of the county in previous years.
I also noted the parking charges in Trowbridge as I paid only 80p for 3 hours in a central car park and it seems to me that Salisbury is being used to raise funds for Wiltshire Council at the expense of local businesses and residents. I believe that Wiltshire Council needs to re-think its strategies before causing further damage to this dying city.
