VILLAGERS in Stratford-sub-Castle and The Friends of St Lawrence are researching the history of Stratford during the period 1910-20.

There are 46 First World War Commonwealth War Graves in St Lawrence churchyard of soldiers who died of illness at Salisbury Isolation Hospital near Old Sarum Airfield.

Nine local Stratford men were killed on active service on The Western Front, in Salonica and Mesopotamia.

These men were JT Ford, G Goodridge, AG Humphries, C Long, GR Mundy, JJ Scadden, F Stevens, WH Waterman and JJ Waters.

If anyone has any information about these men's families or has their own connections with Stratford during the First World War, we would be very grateful if they would get in touch.

The names of these men are going to be engraved on The Wayside cross beside the church in memory of their sacrifice.

There will be a service of commemoration on Sunday, August 3 at 3pm followed by tea in the Reading Room where there will be a display of material that has been researched.
