I AM researching names engraved on the war memorial at Longparish, near Andover, of those who fell in the Great War.
I am trying to trace the descendants of a soldier with connections with the Salisbury area and I wonder whether any of your readers can help me contact them.
Rifleman Thomas Charles Langford Read was killed in action on the Somme in September 1916.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
The address of his widow Eleanor Read at that time was 3 Wilson Terrace, Bemerton, Salisbury.
My objective is to ensure Rifleman Read and the others are more than just names carved in stone. The results will be displayed at a memorial concert in Longparish in November.
I would welcome contact from descendants – or anyone who knows anything about him – on 01264 720790 or henry.yelf@sky.com.
